The first footage of Rami Malek performing as Freddie Mercury in a Queen biopic has been released - and it’s already set the internet alight.

The short clip filmed from a crowd perspective, shows the Egyptian actor on stage playing piano and apparently miming Bohemian Rhapsody.

The scene is understood to be part of a recreation of the Mercury’s famous Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985.

It will be featured in the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic to be released next year.

Internet users, while split over the decision to cast Malek as Mercury, have heaped praise on his performance, complete with Mercury’s flamboyant stage presence.

“Shockingly accurate. I wonder what those guys who were at the concert years ago would feel when they see this. Even I am about to cry,” one Facebook user wrote.

“I was totally blown away by how amazing his back looked and how realistic his piano pantomiming was,” another wrote.

Malek, 36, is known for his role as Elliot in Mr. Robot. He also played Finn in 2014 movie Need for Speed.
