A man has been charged after a suspicious fire at the Hire for Baby shop on Great Eastern Highway in Rivervale last night.

Traffic into the city from Perth Airport was thrown into chaos after the fire started about 6.20pm.

Westbound lanes were closed as crews battled the blaze and cleaned up.

The 41-year-old man who owns the business was arrested outside the building and taken to Royal Perth Hospital for a health assessment.

He was charged with breach of duty after allegedly starting the fire and failing to extinguish it or alert emergency services.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrate’s Court today.
