Lotto players across WA were frantically searching for somewhere to buy their lucky $40 million ticket today - with machines around the state down thanks to technical issues.

With a bumper $40 million prize on offer in tonight’s OzLotto, it appears the worst possible time for terminals to go down.

But punters were turned away from shops for a number of hours with the in-store Lotto system down for multiple vendors.

A spokeswoman for Lotterywest wouldn’t confirm just how many had gone down but confirmed that ‘some’ had experienced ‘difficulties’ this afternoon.

It appears that the issue was resolved, but with just over an hour to play - as the superdraw neared.

“This issue has now been resolved following an investigation.” Pina Compagnone said.

“It was our number one priority to address the issue so trade could recommence. Lotterywest has communicated with its retailers and players to keep them informed and updated. Lotterywest apologises for the inconvenience.”
