Sydney pop band 5 Seconds of Summer are the first home grown band to top ARIA’s end of years charts since 2006, when Australian Idol runner-up Anthony Callea claimed number one with The Prayer.

Despite 5SOS leading the annual chart with their anthem Youngblood and fellow Sydneysider Dean Lewis landing fourth with ballad Be Alright, the hit-list makes for depressing reading for lovers of Australian music.

Aussie artists produced only 11 of the Top 100 singles of 2018.

Perth superstar Troye Sivan is the only WA act in the list, with his infectious platinum hit My My My! landing at No. 84.

His second long-player Bloom scraped in at No. 97 on the Top 100 albums, which contains 19 Aussie releases compared to 27 in 2017.

The Greatest Showman soundtrack is the first to top the end of year albums chart since Moulin Rouge in 2001.

Movie soundtracks dominated ARIA’s album list, with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody both starring in the top five.

Queen’s Greatest Hits strutted into eighth, squeezing between albums from North American megastars Drake and Pink.

Despite both being released in 2017, Ed Sheeran’s album Divide and hit single Perfect continued to be hugely popular with listeners last year.

Amy Shark boasts the biggest Australian album on 2018, but her debut Love Monster only managed No. 14.

The only other Aussie acts in the Top 20 albums were Vance Joy and Keith Urban, with greatest hits compilations from Cold Chisel, INXS, Crowded House and the Wiggles landing lower in the chart.

Laconic US rapper Post Malone scored seven singles in the ARIA Top 100, including two in the Top 10, while his Beerbongs & Bentleys parked at No. 4 on the album countdown.

Sheeran and Khalid each contributed four songs, while Drake, Ariana Grande and Marshmello finished with three.

Sheeran, Eminem and Queen each have three albums in the Top 100.
