Broome actress Ningali Lawford-Wolf has fallen seriously ill while on tour in the UK, forcing the cancellation of two stage shows.
It is understood the 52-year-old performer has been hospitalised in London while on tour for the Sydney Theatre Company’s The Secret River at the Edinburgh International Festival.
Her family were understood to be flying to London today to be by her bedside.
Ms Lawford-Wolf is known for her appearance in the 1990 play and subsequent movie Bran Nue Dae, which was written by late Broome playwright Jimmy Chi.
Her other movie and television roles include performances in the Rabbit Proof Fence, Last Cab to Darwin and Mystery Road.
She also works as an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer at Broome Senior High School.
The Sydney Theatre Company confirmed that a “serious cast illness” had caused the cancellation of two shows, but would not comment until it had permission from the cast member’s family.
