The multimillion-dollar redevelopment of the Dampier foreshore will begin next month after the tender was awarded to Georgiou Group and the contract finalised last week.
Georgiou Group is the civil and building construction company behind the $50 million Scarborough Beach redevelopment and was nominated by the council as the preferred tenderer at last month’s council meeting.
Mayor Peter Long said the redevelopment would be a game-changer for the Dampier community.
“This ambitious redevelopment continues council’s work improving foreshores so our towns offer attractive coastal experiences for residents and visitors,” he said.
A Georgiou Group spokeswoman said the organisation put forward for the project because it felt its experienced team could deliver the project to the same standard and quality as the Scarborough Beach job.
“The team is excited to be involved in another transformational foreshore development that will significantly enhance the amenity and functionality of the Dampier foreshore,” she said.
All the tenders received for the project exceeded the initial $10.3 million budget and the council endorsed the additional $3.3 million required to be sourced from the 2019-2020 budget.
“This brings the City’s contribution to $9.6 million, with Rio Tinto contributing $2.5 million and Lotterywest contributing $1.5 million,” Cr Long said.
Works on the project are due to start in May and be completed by the end of the year.
